smart home, done for you
WoowTech Sales Handbook

A smart home—without becoming its full-time engineer

Home Assistant is powerful, but selecting hardware, installing HAOS and add-ons, and maintaining automations all take time. WoowTech is preparing two service models: Option A (self-hosted) and Option B (managed by WoowTech). The owner-labeled items on this page must be confirmed before either option is offered internationally.

Option A (self-hosted)
Home Assistant runs on a host in your home
Option B (managed by WoowTech)
WoowTech manages the host infrastructure
8123
Never expose this port directly to the public internet

Why ask WoowTech to set it up?

Home Assistant supports a broad range of smart-home systems and has an active global community. That flexibility also creates a learning curve: supporting many systems means making many choices. Selecting hardware, flashing an image, commissioning Zigbee or Matter devices, building automations, and managing upgrades all require time and ongoing attention.

  • Time: Reading documentation, comparing recommendations, and troubleshooting can take many hours.
  • Reliability: An overlooked breaking change can interrupt automations throughout the home.
  • Security: Carelessly exposing port 8123 can make Home Assistant reachable from the public internet.
Key idea: You may want the benefits of a smart home without maintaining every component yourself. WoowTech is defining setup and managed-service options. [Owner: WoowTech Product — approve the service scope and availability before publication.]

Choose one of two deployment models

The primary difference is where Home Assistant runs. With Option A (self-hosted), the host is in your home. With Option B (managed by WoowTech), WoowTech manages the host infrastructure. The available features and division of responsibilities may differ between the two options.

Option B (managed by WoowTech)

Option B (managed by WoowTech)

WoowTech would manage the host infrastructure. This option may suit customers who do not want a local host and whose devices rely mainly on cloud integrations. [Owner: WoowTech Product — confirm eligibility and technical scope.]

Choosing the hardware

Select a host according to the installation, required protocols, workload, and budget. These models are examples rather than an approved product list:

ModelPotential useKey selection factorNotes
Home Assistant Green Smaller installations with light workloadsExternal radio requirements Entry-level Home Assistant hardware
Home Assistant Yellow (discontinued) Supported existing or second-hand installations onlyCompute module and storage configuration Not recommended for new purchases; confirm Thread requirements for an existing installation
Raspberry Pi 5 + SSD Users who prefer a configurable single-board computerPower supply, cooling, and storage [Owner: WoowTech Sales — confirm whether this configuration will be supplied.]
Intel N100 mini PC Larger installations or additional local workloadsFinal hardware configuration and workload Suitability depends on the selected configuration

Zigbee or Z-Wave radios, Matter controllers, and Thread border routers may also be required. Recommendations should be based on the devices you already own or intend to purchase.

What the delivery process could cover

The following process is illustrative. An approved statement of work must identify every included task and each party’s responsibilities.

Which devices might connect?

A remotely hosted Home Assistant instance cannot automatically reach devices that are available only on your local network. Validate each device and integration against the final architecture:

Device typeOption B (managed by WoowTech) suitabilityNotes
Google, Apple, or Alexa cloud speakersPotentially suitableDepends on the relevant cloud integration
Mijia, Aqara, or Tuya cloud APIsPotentially suitableRequires a supported vendor account and integration
Wi-Fi smart plugs and bulbsDevice-dependentSome use a manufacturer’s cloud; others require local access
Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, or Thread devicesUsually requires local hardwareConfirm the local radio, controller, hub, or border-router design; consider Option A (self-hosted)
KNX, Modbus, or wired monitoringUsually requires local accessThese systems are commonly local; consider Option A (self-hosted)
HomeKit devicesDevice-dependentConsider Option A (self-hosted) when the integration requires local discovery or control
Warning: Do not assume that Option B (managed by WoowTech) can reach local-only radios or wired systems. Confirm the architecture for Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Thread, KNX, Modbus, and local HomeKit devices before purchase.
